Country Music Roll of Renown is a musical project that celebrates the giants of country music, past and present. As the name implies, these artists have reached the top and enjoyed long careers in the business, inspiring others along the way.
The CMAA Country Music Roll of Renown awards recognition to those artists who have made a lasting and significant contribution to Australian country music.
The Roll of Renown was first established in 1976 by Radio 2TM. A monument of 26 granite boulders were placed on the front lawns of Radio 2TM. Each new Roll of Renown Plaque is installed on a granite boulder.
On 29 January 1976 Tex Morton became the first person to be honoured on the Roll of Renown. When Tex Morton saw his plaque on one of the granite boulders, he commented that his birth year was wrong. They later replaced his plaque with the correct information.
In recognition of the importance of the Roll of Renoun, Radio 2TM allowed the Tamworth City Council to re-locate the monument. You can see the Roll of Renoun today at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre (TREC).
