SINCE 1930 AUSTRALIA HAS won over 2,000 medals, the most of any nation participating. At the first games in 1930, England had 61 medals while Australia only won 8. Over the years, Australia has steadily gained ground and at the 2006 Games won a total of 221medals (84 were gold), while England only won 113 medals.
The Australian Olympics team has a proud history of success at the games. When it comes to medals and gold medals, our athletes have outperformed the expectations of many others around the world.
