The 1994 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XV Commonwealth Games were held in Victoria, British Columbia. They were the first international multi-sport event ever held in Canada

THE 1994 COMMONWEALTH GAMES should be noted for two reasons. This was Hong Kong’s last appearance before reverting to Chinese rule. It was also

South Africa’s first return to international sporting events since apartheid ended and marked an end to their 30-year absence from the Games. There were 12 sports at the Games.

The 1994 mascot was “Klee Wych”, the Killer Whale. The name was selected from a competition and in Nuu-chah Nulth peoples’ language is broadly translated as “the laughing one”. It represents the intelligent, sociable and graceful animals native to Canadian waters.
