26th ARIA Awards Ceremony

2012 ARIA Award winners were announced on the day before the music industry’s annual awards ceremony at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre

Once again Gotye (Wally De Backer) was the big winner at this years 2012 ARIA Awards receiving 4 ARIAs for Best Male Artist, Best Pop Release, Best Australian Live Act, and Album of the Year. Repeating her win last year, Kimbra picked up the ARIA Award for Best Female Artist. While Melbourne rapper 360 received an impressive six nominations, only one ARIA for Breakthrough Artist Release was received.

ARIA Week Created

In a new initiative for 2012, ARIA and the NSW Government through Destination NSW announce the formation of ARIA WEEK. A week long celebration of the local music industry prior to the main event, ARIA WEEK features a series of showcases and live performances at venues around Sydney, as well as workshops, forums and discussions on a range of industry issues.

Category Changes

Two categories, Breakthrough Artist Single and Breakthrough Artist Album, have been combined and are now called the Breakthrough Artist Release award.

The 2012 ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association)  Awards was telecast on the Nine Network’s digital channel GO! Coverage included the red carpet action followed by the Awards ceremony. The official ARIA Awards After Party for 2012 was held at Marquee at The Star, a Sydney leisure and entertainment venue overlooking Sydney Harbour. ARIA Awards General Public Tickets cost $49.95.

For an artist to be eligible for a 2012 ARIA Award, they must have released their recording within the eligibility period, which extends from Friday, 19 August 2011 to Thursday, 23 August 2012.
