The song was inspired by the Aussie sporting phrase “Up There Cazaly” heard shouted at football matches. Roy Cazaly was a champion footballer (St Kilda and South Melbourne) noted for his high-flying marks (specky).

A specky (slang for spectacular mark or a hanger) is a type of mark in Australian rules football. In a typical specky, a player jumps high up often on another player’s back in order to catch (mark) the ball.
