Three Kangaroos
in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory

Kakadu National Park covers an area of approximately 20,000 square kilometres, and is the second largest national park in the world. It is in the Northern Territory approximately 171 kilometres east of Darwin.

Kangaroos are native to Australia. They have very large powerful hind legs with large feet to help them hopping. They use their long muscular tail for balance. The largest of the kangaroos, the Red Kangaroo hops at about 20 to 25 kilometres per hour. However, over short distances they can hop as fast as 70 kilometres per hour.

What do you call a kangaroo? If it's a female, it's called a doe or jill. If it's a male, it's called a buck, a boomer or a jack. Young kangaroos are called joeys and a bunch of kangaroos is called a mob.
