Australia, the home of yachting. Australia has a very long history of sailing and is considered to be the birthplace of modern yacht racing.

1983 marks a historic win in sailing when Alan Bond won the America Cup, the first time an Aussie team won. Representing the Royal Perth Yacht Club of Western Australia, Bond won with the yacht called Australia. The first Australian challenge to the America’s Cup was in 1967, and then again 1970, 1974, 1977 and 1980, all unsuccessful until the 1983 race.
