The ARIA Awards are presented annually by the Australian Recording Industry Association to recognise achievements in the Australian music industry.

Highlight of the 1990 ARIA Awards was the addition of live performances for the first time. Next year’s Awards would see the start of television coverage for the first time. Today’s ARIA Awards is seen by around 2 million people on television, and approximately 2,500 recording industry guests and 5,000 members of the general public.
